Enter the Battlefield

If prayer is the battlefield, talking about prayer is equivalent to drawing up our strategy and battle plans.

It’s important to talk about prayer – to learn strategies – so that we are entering the battle prepared.

You may have questions like: Who should we address our prayers to (Father, Son or Spirit)? Is “pray unceasingly” (1 Thess 5:17) attainable and realistic?

Those questions are like asking “who is the commander?” and “how long do I fight in this position?” You need those answers if your goal is to win.

There are many books, articles and podcasts about prayer to help us respond to our call to spiritual war. The Prayer Code by O.S. Hawkins was an easy read, structured around 40 prayers from the Bible. I found a few good quotes and insights to share with you in this post.

However, it is necessary to remember that the Bible Itself is the best resource to learn about prayer. The Bible records over 650 different prayers (vii), which is a great reminder of the priority we should place on prayer 🙏

Prayer without the Bible has no direction. And, conversely, the Bible without prayer has no dynamic.

I don’t know how you feel about your church, but Hawkins reminds us that “before it is to be the house of Bible teaching, fellowship, evangelism, missions, or anything else, it is to be known as the “house of prayer”” (137).

I’m also not sure where you stand with your church family, but “the true brotherhood of man is really in the family of God” (3).

“We are more closely related to one another through the blood of Christ than to our own blood relatives who do not know Him.”

So our church and Christian family is to be all about prayer (this is a great time to do a plug on unity, but I’ll wait 😉).

It is easy to point fingers and place blame when life takes a turn for the worse, but “God’s real problem is not with a culture that has gone awry but with His own people called by His own name” (48-49). We need to be accountable with ourselves and our spiritual family since “the real issue is not with “them” but with “us”” (49).

I want to be a warrior for Christ. That does not involve fighting my spiritual family or condemning those who don’t know the Truth.

Being a warrior for Christ means I fight in prayer. I bind strongholds, I break chains and I claim Jesus over the impossible.

Prayer is simply talking to God, whether it’s praising His Name, confessing our failures, asking for help, thanking Him for provisions or lifting up the needs of others.

Let’s not forget the last step in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:18) so that we can be victorious warriors on the battlefield.
